Socio-Emotional Toolbox
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL or Socio-Emotional) is the process through which an individual acquires and effectively applies their knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions. The individual also sets and achieves positive goals, feels and shows empathy for others, establishes and maintains positive relationships and makes responsible decisions.
At Black Mountain School, we use the socio-emotional toolbox throughout the entire school. The premise of this program is to provide all students with skills and strategies to assist them with processing emotions, difficult information, or anything that may pose a challenge to an individual's behaviour.
Using the socio-emotional toolbox features (symbols and scripts) allows staff to develop a positive learning environment for all students, and provides a solid scaffold for students to develop necessary social and emotional skills to navigate school, home and post school life.
The socio-emotional toolbox is easily adapted across the varying cohorts, ensuring we are able to provide relevant and appropriate information to all students.
